Thermal efficiency

The most commonly used measurement of thermal efficiency in bifold doors is U-value. This measures a bifold door’s thermal transmittance and its unit of measurement is W/m²K. The lower the value, the better a product is at retaining heat. Bifold doors from a well-known brand in the UK can achieve a U-value of up to 1.2 W/m²K, whereas Solarlux bifold doors, such as the Highline model, can achieve a U-value as low as 0.8 W/m²K.

The profile of our bifold door holds the key to its thermal efficiency. A multi-functional thermal break does more than just keep your home a comfortable temperature. This expertly crafted feature houses the locking mechanism and gives the door strength, allowing you to move panels weighing more than 17 stone (110 kg) with a little more than a gentle push.

Opening and sightlines

“Sightline” is a term that will come up repeatedly when comparing the best bifold doors available on the market. A sightline is the gap between the 2 panes of glass in the door. The slimmer the sightline, the more light that is allowed into the room. One of the UK’s well-known bifold door brand can offer a sightline of 110mm.

Our doors, such as the Ecoline model, offer a sightline of 99mm, giving you practically unobstructed views of the outside world. Solarlux bifold door panels can also be folded into a slender bundle when open. Customise the door to your home by choosing the number of glass panels, the door’s folding direction (left or right) and even if they open in or out.

Security

Despite the slim sightlines, you can rest easy knowing that you’re protected by the Solarlux bifold doors. Our multi-point locking mechanism is concealed within the door’s frame, offering the home high levels of security. Bifold doors from a well-known UK brand meet the UK minimum security standard, PAS 24.

Not only do Solarlux bifold doors meet PAS 24 but they are also compliant with RC2, the European security testing standard. Select products from the range are certified by Secured by Design (SBD). The SBD initiative started in the late 1980s, calling for stricter regulations and testing standards. Since its inception, there has been an 87% reduction in overall burglary in new homes.

Sustainability

We use high-quality aluminium and wood in our range of bifold doors. The wood featured in our bifold door range, such as the Combiline door, is certified to be sourced from sustainable forestry by the PEFC and FSC. Our environmentally conscious approach extends to the production process with the use of water-based finishes and the recycling of water and heat to conserve natural resources.

Aluminium is inherently a durable and sustainable material, making it perfect for use in bifold doors. Our aluminium production process is certified in accordance with the German A.U.F. Recycling Loop, which confirms our commitment to sustainability and that our aluminium is recycled in an environmentally conscious manner.

Accessibility

Protruding floor tracks can be a trip hazard for little ones and can affect a home’s accessibility. Our bifold doors can come with a completely flush floor track, suitable for any living space. We offer impact protected floor track LED lighting that not only adds an ambience to a room but can act as an orientation aid for the visually impaired.
