For German glazing specialist, Solarlux, creating that light and airy feel is about more about lifestyle and contemporary living and the company’s folding glazed façades offer the ultimate in style and open plan living.

And now architects and Specifiers across London can see for themselves just how the addition of a Solarlux folding glazed façade could transform a home, following the opening of the company’s first ever UK showroom in the South East at the Islington Business Design Centre. The new outlet marks a move to make the innovative home improvement solution more accessible to UK buyers, with Solarlux also building a network of ‘Active Partners’ retail glazing suppliers, trained in specifying and fitting the Solarlux range.

Designed to bring the outdoors inside during the summer months, whilst providing a secure barrier against the weather, noise and dust as required, the Solarlux system can be used to create a completely seamless glass façade on houses, with no ugly supports to block the view.  The system uses a folding, sliding mechanism to open up the indoor space and create a completely open plan living/garden area. The glazed panels can be opened inwards or outwards, folded to the right or left, and positioned and locked in any position along the full width, providing a completely fluid and flexible approach to modern living.

The Solarlux system is also ideally suited to apartment living and can be used to create a façade from which to enjoy the view and open up the living space onto the balcony. Equally, it can be used to enclose the balcony itself, maximising the apartment’s energy efficiency by creating an extra barrier against the elements and increasing the useable space during the winter.

Explains Gwyn Gapper UK Managing Director: “Open plan living is a trend that’s here to stay and our folding glazed façade takes the concept to the extreme by allowing architects to open up a living space to the outdoor areas.  Whilst traditional patio doors create a flow between indoor and outdoor spaces, our system means that you can remove any kind of barrier between the two areas. Even in the winter, you can still benefit from all the extra light that comes flooding in through the glass façade.”

Solarlux have also brought the ‘Atrium’ ‘summer house’ to the UK home improvements market, a new take on the uninsulated conservatory that can be installed quickly and easily, often at a fraction of the cost of traditional conservatories.  An all-glass room requires minimal  foundations, the Solarlux Atrium provides a ‘summer house’ that allows extended seasonal use of the garden and allows the feeling of light and space to continue throughout the home.

Gwyn Gapper continues: “We offer eye-catching lifestyle glazing solutions but it’s important to us that our product range is accessible to Architects and designers in the SE of England. That’s why we have opened the new showroom and have invested in building a UK network of trusted suppliers. With these sales channels in place, we anticipate that the Solarlux system will become as popular in the UK as it is across Europe and the USA.”
