Solarlux Innovation: Patio Canopy Transforms into Glasshouse

Januar 20th, 2007

Solarlux´s leading position in the market for high-quality folding façades and wintergardens has been created by continuously applying the benchmarks of overall clean lines, high quality and uncompromising standards, as well as user friendly innovations. It is therefore not surprising that this German company has made an impact at the BAU 2007 exhibition in Munich with the new glasshouse concept.

The glasshouse concept has been inspired by the idea of offering an alter-native to the wintergarden which gives value for money. It gives the end user the opportunity to upgrade their patio in stages – starting simply with a canopy and finishing up with a fully enclosed weather-protected area. The basis for the modular glasshouse are the two uninsulated patio canopies “SDL Atrium“ and “SDL Aura“ which are fully usable in their own right. By fitting movable window panels, the roof system can be turned into a glass-house giving protection from all sides.

“SDL Atrium“
The patio canopy “SDL Atrium“ features special slim line aluminium profiles  with the structural members on the outside. Steel reinforcement in the roof members, the eaves purlins and the supports make large roof areas and spans possible guaranteeing at the same time a high load bearing capability. The single pitch roof construction can be provided with or without eaves. The positioning of the supporting uprights is, within certain limits, variable so that no corner posts are needed which may obstruct the view. A single piece wall connection and the high degree of prefabrication make installation simple and economic.

“SDL Aura“
“SDL Aura“ is an up-market patio canopy system constructed from wood and aluminium. On the inside, structural veneer lumber profiles (so-called SVL-profiles) are used as roof members instead of the conventional glued trusses. Profiles made from this new wood material, constructed of longitu-dinally glued laminated Oregon pine, achieve 30 % more stability. With this roof system the developers demonstrate not only a technically perfected product but also creative scope with unusual design aspects on the inside. The new slim wooden profiles are protected from the weather by powder-coated attractively shaped aluminium profiles.

Upgradable to a glasshouse
As a good value for money alternative to winter gardens, the patio canopies from Solarlux can be enclosed all the way round with vertical glass ele-ments which are movable and thus transform the space into a comfortable glasshouse. With ease, the glazing can be folded away or pushed aside so that the original character of the patio is preserved. Solarlux´s glasshouse concept extends the time the patio can be used during the year and thus enhances many times the pleasure you gain from it. Anti-glare and sun protection can, of course, be provided which can be fitted internally or ex-ternally.
